The Potty Meeting

On September 26th, we held what will be forever be known as “The Potty Meeting.”  It was all potty talk, all the time!!  Some would say that we had a real Potty.  We could have pottied till the break of dawn!!   Okay, enough of the potty talk.

Let's move on to the Potty Toss, our game for Camp Carnival.  A real Sting Sting Sting to our Carpenter Extraordinaire for putting together such a great looking game.  The suggestion was made, and seconded amid much laughter, that anyone needing any practice throws must first holler, "I'm not Potty trained!".  Because, hey, we Scorpions like to include the whole Pack when we have a Potty.

The level of detail and skill many of the boys showed with the floor plans they submitted to satisfy the Engineer requirement was very impressive.  Many of them also completed a Readyman requirement by developing a fire escape plan for their families.  That's "BE PREPARED" thinking.  These guys are progressing well toward becoming Boy Scouts.

A big thanks goes out to our guest speakers who taught us some Hindi words and showed the boys how to write a few words in Hindi.  Getting right back to the potty theme of the meeting, we especially appreciated the details of the reason why every Indian is right-handed.

Lastly, a special thanks goes out to one of our parents who recently returned from the combat theater with gifts that he bartered for from some of the youths of that region.  I'm sure the boys will treasure them.

Congratulations to our new Whittler and a great job singing by the three boys who had to "renew" their Whittling Chips.

Thanks in advance to "Goose" for involving us in preparing the camp fire and keeping the younger cubs safe at Camp Carnival this weekend.  See you all there.

Upcoming events to start the new year

We had our first Pack Meeting and “Official” Den Meeting of the year.  I am very happy that all of you returned for the Webelos II year.  The year should be a great one with lots of new things including:
Back to Brownsea
Camping as a Den
BSA Emergency Preparedness
Cub Scout World Conservation Award
Lots of Gags and Skits at the Pack meetings
the Return of Green Man
Some pretty unusual hikes
and learning a lot of independence and responsibility.
The year has started off great.  I hope all of you can make it the Camp Carnival at Masonic this coming Weekend - Sep 30 thru Oct. 2.
There will be camping, games, cooking, eating, camp fire, a possible flag retirement (if you haven’t seen one of these, it can be emotional), crafting, and something new to camp carnival - a Fishing Derby with a huge trophy for catching White Tip….the elusive aquatic beast that resides in the lake at Masonic.

Milestone meeting!

The first meeting of the last year of cub scouts. We opened with a little refresher on the joining knot (square knot) and the Boy Scout Oath, which is just different enough from the Cub Scout Oath to be really confusing! Both the knot and the oath are requirements for Arrow of Light, which all the boys will have the opportunity to earn this year. Everyone welcomed our new member, Hunter, to the best den in Pack 604! We practiced the flag ceremony and there was plenty of advice and laughter when it came time to practice our skit to unveil our new flag and t-shirts to the rest of the Pack. I think it will be memorable and the kids will have a great time doing it. We ended with a little basketball, which earned all the boys their Basketball Beltloop, if they hadn't earned it already. See you all at the Pack meeting Monday.
