Camp Carnival

The Scorpions! hit the great outdoors and really left their mark on the hearts and minds of everyone at the Camp Carnival at Masonic Park last weekend.  The Carnival itself was a hit with the boys.  Lots of "potty training" was accomplished and the boys had a great time at the other dens' games, tug-o-war and the catapults.  Several of the boys participated in the Raingutter Regatta, too.  Our den was tasked at the last minute with the flag ceremony involving an actual flag pole and folding the flag.  -  They did a very respectable job.

The skit we performed... The King's Important Paper.., while a classic, was well received and everyone seemed to enjoy it as well as the whole campfire.  One of our Scorpions! was crowned king of the Tea Pot Singers and won a whole dollar for his efforts.

We had 5 boys sleeping in one big tent provided by a Scorpion! family.  We called it the Scorpion! Pit, and there were some indescribable noises and um……odors coming from the pit that I will choose not to elaborate on now.  Lets just say that the Scorpion Pit was the place to be on Saturday Night.  Here are the Fab Five the morning after.  Then all the boys had pancakes and donuts before heading out to the Scout's Own service where we made a very nice showing.  We all shared words that inspire us and learned how to keep our buckets filled by filling the buckets of others (it's a metaphor).  Those who were really listening even learned what the shortest verse in the bible is (John 11:35 if you want to look it up).

I also hope everyone enjoyed the fishing derby.  One of the Scorpions! caught the biggest fish and won a large tackle box to hold all his fishing gear in.  His catch was recorded in perpetuity (or until it washes off) and was "a little more than a hand and an inch".  Several other Scorpions! got fish hooks for their hats.
